"coming soon"

Swim Across America

Open Water.  Yes, I said it.  Swim Across America (SAA) is held in open water.  Lake Michigan to be exact.

Most of you will immediately say no to the prospect of swimming in open water or Lake Michigan but give me a chance to change your mind.

First thing first…

What is Swim Across America?

SAA is a non-competitive charity swim held on the 4th Saturday in July (July 23rd), which benefits the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center at Loyola University Medical Center.

Participants have the choice of swimming a 1/2-mile, 1-mile, 1.5-mile or 3-mile distance.  The 1/2-mile and 1-mile distances are along an out-and-back course.  The 1.5-mile and 3-mile distances are along the same triangular course that Big Shoulders utilizes.  The 1.5-mile distance is a single lap around the triangular course while the 3-mile distance is two laps around the triangular course.

In order to participate, each swimmer/member of a team must raise $300.

Why You Shouldn’t Say No

I know what you’re thinking – Lake Michigan is big, unpredictable, and scary.

The same could be said for cancer.

SAA is not supposed to be easy.  It is supposed to be a challenge.

We Can Do This…Together

If you finish the warm-up at swimming practice, the distance aspect of SAA will not be the issue.  Together, we can practice in open water so it won’t be as scary.

Last year Suzie and I participated in SAA – we both had a great time.  This year Coach Steve and I are hoping more of you will take on the challenge or will show your support for your fellow teammates and this great cause.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Coach Steve or me at adventuregoers@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Nicole

Meet Schedule

I encourage you to participate in any event or swim meet that interests you, but WE, as a team, are going to target these events listed below as a way to get groups of people participating together and more importantly having fun together!  Please note:  You should at least try to participate in one (1) meet.  Doing so is "highly" encouraged, the STATE Meet is a lot of fun and if we have more participants I am sure it would be even better!

How to share your pictures and videos

Flickr is a very easy web service that you can upload both pictures and video's to share with everyone on the team.

You can email pictures and shorter videos (less than 90 secs) directly to Flickr using this email address: public14added@photos.flickr.com (this is a custom email address just for our Lyons Masters Flickr page). In the subject line of the email you can enter a title and in the body of the email you can enter a description. All you have to do is just attach the photo or video and send it on its way.

You can upload your videos that are longer than 90 secs to our You Tube page by emailing them to n4sp5b7zi8iy@m.youtube.com

Just please be courteous and choose "appropriate" pictures and videos.....Coach Steve will be moderating the content!

Welcome

Welcome to the Lyons Masters Team's website!

Here is some of the information you can find here.
  • Workouts - The "Workouts" menu bar link provides an archive of all our workouts.  You’ll also have the opportunity to comment and provide feedback on the individual workouts and find fun workouts to use outside of practice.
  • Meets – While participating in a swim meet or open water event can be intimidating, it can also be fun.  We, as a team, are going to work on developing the skills needed to participate in these sort of events so that they will be more fun than intimidating.  Hopefully you’ll consider participating or at least coming out to support your fellow teammates.  The events that the team will be focusing on are listed under the “Meet” menu bar link.  Information regarding dates, registration, directions, meeting spots, and results will also be posted.
  • Links – Need a copy of your USMS membership card?  Want to re-read that article in USMS Swimmer magazine?  Or do you want to know how cold Lake Michigan is?  The “Links” menu bar link provides you with links to sites that provide this information and much more.  Hopefully, this will save us all a little bit of time.
  • Bulletin Board - The "Bulletin Board" link is a message board for members to use to communicate with one another.  It allows you to start a new topic of conversation or comment on an existing topic.  Hopefully, you'll use it to access each other and your similar interests.
